Clean Slate
Clean Slate (1994)

IMDB rating: 5.20

Plot: Pogue is a private eye with a problem: every morning when he wakes up, he has total amnesia, waking up with a ‘blank slate’. Since he is in the middle of a hot investigation and has a developing romance, this is less than convenient.

Done Stealin’ by Carolina Liar

If I had the chance to say
Remove the walls, let’s clean the slate
Would it make us new?

Should we find a way to start
Without the mess we’ve made this far?
Would it make us new?

I’ve seen this movie once before
Don’t need to see the end, no

I can’t get away and you will never leave me
Addicted to the game, it’s time to make it easy
I can’t get enough, so I have to do the right thing
And give you back ’cause I’m done stealin’

If someone looked into our case
And said our files could be erased
Would that make us new?

Just tell me when and where to sign
I’ll check in and do the time
And tell the truth

‘Cause I’ve seen this movie twice before
Don’t need to see the end, no

I can’t get away and you will never leave me
Addicted to the game, it’s time to make it easy
I can’t get enough, so I have to do the right thing
And give you back ’cause I’m done stealin’

I know that we can make our dreams come true
Is a crime committed? We misunderstood
Oh yeah, oh yeah!
‘Cause I’m done stealin’

If a jury read your mind
You’d go away for quite some time
Would that make us new?

Truly that is something I believe

It is just talking about starting over. Asking if starting on a clean slate if it would change anything or turn out differently. Its also sayong if it would change things he would do what he can. Hes saying that they enjoy playing the game they are w/e it is and they just ddnt understand another. Hes just done and wants to know if it can change.

It’s describing a specific type of relationship- that couple that we all know (or may have possibly been one half of ourselves)- they always fight, but can’t leave each other- the are addicted to each other & to the drama & turbulance of their tempestuous & reckless relationship ("Addicted to the game") – and if they ever actually do break up- it lasts for a week, & then- much to the dismay of friends & family- they are back in each others arms- and at each others throats- their relationship is super intense- volitile & tumultuous, but also full of more passion than most- they fight, break-up, have make-up sex, fight, break-up, make-up sex…and on & on- it’s firey hot, explosive- even violent- when they love each other- they love hard- but when they hate- they HATE- they certainly CANNOT live with each other, but can’t seem to live without each other either… etc etc etc

it is almost always a "first-love" couple- they started going out in highschool & were just never able to leave each other- everytime they’ve tried, it doesn’t last. it’s actually a miserable existance & i have watched some friends go through it & my sister is still caught up in this mess of passionate love/passionate hate.

The lyrics of this song (which i’ve never heard before) actually describe it quite well- although when i listened to the song i was surprised it wasn’t harder/rougher musically. (Btw- is it a woman or guy singing?? "Carolina" suggests woman, right? But when i listen, im thinking- this is a dude singing?)
Anyway- heshe also keeps mentioning "starting anew" (starting anew = hope) – iow, is there any way for us to wipe the slate clean of all the damage we have done to each other, & is it possible for us to start over & forget the past? (yeah,no it’s not Carolina). Heshe also keeps using a metaphor- relating their relationship to a "crime" that was/is being committed, and relating the relationship in terms of its timeline to a "case" (asking if the "files" of their case were erased, would they/could they start anew…etc)…blah blah blah
